And the land gives forth…

והארץ תתן את יבולה…

Often with private commissions, I work not only in the classic stained glass technique, but with fused glass (melting cut pieces and ground glass (frit) onto a big base glass at 1500 degrees!) and slumped glass. This is one of those projects. When I was asked to do this piece, it was to be a celebration of the land. I used thick glass fused at 1500 degrees and fired numerous times to get the look and feeling that I wanted. There are layers of different effects done by using similar elements some in the positive and some in the negative and also in slightly different positions. I was thrilled by the outcome. Sometimes the most exciting projects are those that are smaller, and there is less ego involved so the product comes out more innocently, more perfect. Often, at the end of this process I see a beautiful piece of art glass that is greater than the original idea.
