Sometimes an architect will make a mistake that will lead to something new entirely.
This Bet Midrash was made with a large 26 foot diameter arch window facing the east. Unfortunately the sun streaming in made the space so hot that the air conditioning was not able to combat it. What to do? This is the focal point of the space!
The head Rabbi of the Yeshiva and I sat together and spoke about his vision of what the Yeshiva is. I loved the ideas but how to implement them in a stained glass art window so huge? The window was made from the first draft of the sketch and its focal point is the massive page of the talmud made from flashed glass and readable from the ground! Since the window was donated as a commemoration of the expulsion from Gaza in 2008. I tried to combine education, memory and hope together into picture that puts past and future together.
